An Exploration of Movement, Voice & Music
Ockham Collective resident Sonia Wilson is offering this series of six Friday-night workshops at Hypatia in collaboration with Alexandra Whitham, a full-time lecturer in voice and theatre for the Department of Performing & Screen Arts at Unitec. This collaboration will bring together Sonia's experience in a capella singing, world music, sound healing and physical theatre with Alexandra's skillset in voice and speech for theatre and film, and the integration of voice and movement practices.
On the theme of "Listening Without and Within" the aim of this beginner-friendly workshop series will be to introduce students to new tools for accessing their own creativity, increasing self-confidence, listening and expressing, improving vocal agility, learning to improvise, and telling stories with body, voice and/or song. Through a guided process of creative group devising and games, participants will be encouraged to strengthen their physical and spatial awareness and connection, as well as learning about the voice, singing, world music and harmony.
Open to students at every level. Places are limited to 25 and will be allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis to successful applicants.
Cost for participants: $40/session or $30/session for those attending 3 or more of the 6 sessions.
