2020 in review

Despite the challenges the year presented, the Ockham Collective made several strides forward in 2020. Between the lockdowns, in August, we celebrated the opening of the Modal building in Mt Albert. Our brand-new Modal creative precinct never looked better than when we threw open the doors to the public in November for the Finding Home exhibition.

Just down the road, the custom-built music rooms in our Tuatahi creative precinct thrummed with the sounds of lessons offered by residents David Ward and Joe Harrop.

Our largest space – the Hypatia creative precinct in Grafton – was used for Emily Roughton's Scottish fiddle workshops, monthly Auckland Bluegrass Club jam nights, monthly Inside Out Spoken Word for Writers sessions, a scintillating Ethno New Zealand workshop, and Sonia Wilson's highly popular Sunday ukulele and singing sessions. The ukulele group finished the year on a high, with a surprise drop-in by US singer-songwriter Amanda Palmer. Then, shortly after, their offshoot ensemble 4 Strings Sing (pictured above) took out the Most Entertaining Group award at the Thames Ukulele Blast.

We'll be welcoming these groups back in 2021, so get involved! The first Inside Out session for 2021 is already scheduled for Wednesday 13 January. For everything else, keep an eye on our Events Calendar.
