Hypatia's humming
The largest of the Ockham Collective's three beautiful creative precincts is the plant-filled corner suite of the Hypatia apartment building at the corner of Khyber Pass Rd and Huntly Ave, Grafton. It's well used by our OC residents for music lessons and workshops, and by our affiliate groups for monthly events. This June, there's a bumper programme of interesting things on, so click on the links to find out more.
Wednesday 2 June: Auckland Bluegrass Club jam night
Saturday 5 June: Transglobal Music Session
Led by OC resident Hanna Wiskari, this is an opportunity to learn music from around the world, share your own traditions and to collaborate. All instrumentalists and singers welcome!
Tuesday 8 June: DEANZ Open Meetup
Guest speaker Shruthi Vijayakumar will draw from thinking in Eastern spiritual traditions, te ao Māori and Western psychology in exploring the shifts needed to make alternative economic models like the Doughnut Economy a reality.
Wednesday 9 June: Inside Out open mic night for writers
A night for writers to read from their work, whether it be poetry, fiction or non fiction. There's always a musical guest, too.
Friday 25 June: Vocal & a cappella workshop
The first in a fresh series of six workshops hosted by OC resident Sonia Wilson in collaboration with Alexandra Whitham, a full-time lecturer in voice and theatre for the Department of Performing & Screen Arts at Unitec.
Saturday 26 June: Transglobal Music Session
We're very excited to have two of these globe-hopping jam sessions this month (see above).
Monday 28 June: Born to Create
This is the second evening in a series of inspirational talks celebrating creative women, hosted by OC resident Lucie Blaževská. The first event was a wonderful night of insight and enthusiasm, and the guest speakers for this event look equally fascinating: film director Lousie Lever, creative entrepreneur and DJ Nadine Nahimana, and Hiria Faofua, founder of Kids Korowai.
Every Sunday: Ukulele & singing sessions
The irrepressible Sonia Wilson hosts three sessions of these popular strumming and singing sessions every Sunday – at 11am (intermediate level), 12.15pm (intermediate/beginner) and 1.30pm (beginner).
Remember, you can enquire directly about private lessons and workshops at any of our three creative precincts by clicking on the residents' bios on our website.
