Join us at the Ockhams!
Aotearoa literature's night of nights is fast approaching. Join us at the Aotea Centre's Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre on Wednesday 12 May to witness the winners of the 2021 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards being announced. This year's glitzy ceremony is being hosted by the very dashing Jack Tame. It's always a great night for book lovers – a chance to rub shoulders with the nation's leading writers and to hear nominated authors reading from their own work. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster (adult/students $16/12.50).
The awards are one of the key events of the Auckland Writers Festival, which runs from the 11th to the 18th of May. Our very own literary superstar, current Ockham Collective resident Selina Tusitala Marsh, is headlining three sessions during the festival. On Friday 14 May she's teaming up with two other Pasifika authors, Tasiata Avia and Karlo Mila, to talk about their latest books as part of the festival's Talanoa series. The following day she's joined by fellow poet laureate David Eggleton in a session titled Holding the Tokotoko. Finally, on the Sunday morning, she'll face her staunchest critics and most ardent fans as she reads from her second children's book Mophead Tu.
