Seasonal Swedeness
At the Ockham Collective we're nothing if not eclectic. Where else can you experience Irish music, Latin improv, American bluegrass, South Auckland rap and, now, Swedish Advent celebrations – all under the same roof.
Says the OC's Catrin Johnnson, “We would like to warmly invite you to join us in welcoming in the season of Advent in the Swedish way. Together we will celebrate the beginning of the festive season with traditional songs and music, games and laughter as well as julfika (Christmas afternoon tea) including glögg (mulled wine), pepparkakor (ginger snaps) and bullar (Swedish buns). We will save the surströmming (rotten herring) for another occasion.”
The OC's answer to Agnetha and Anni-Frid – Catrin Johnsson and Hanna Wiskari – will be performing, along with Rachel Fuller and James Bush (sadly, not in matching jumpsuits as far as we know).
Bring your friends, family and any random Swedish backpackers you happen to meet for a fun afternoon together. It's kicking off at 3pm on Sunday 1 December at the Nix. Tickets are $20 at the door (children $5).
