Talia Pua is a theatre maker, performer and set designer based in Tāmaki Makaurau, of Malaysian-Chinese heritage. She is a co-founder and Artistic Director of independent theatre company, Hand Pulled Collective.
With a degree in Creative Technologies and a background in performance and physical theatre, she loves to make theatre that weaves together striking design, movement and music.
In 2021, she made her award-winning playwriting and directing debut with Pork and Poll Taxes which was nominated for the Adam NZ Play Award (2022) and won the b425 Award (2023). She is currently writing and devising her second play, Dani and the Age of Wonder, which has undergone development with Proudly Asian Theatre’s Intermediate Playwriting Class with Ahi Karunaharan (2021), Oryza’s Playwriting Lab and Capital E’s National Residency (2022).
