Music industry

Hi, I’m Tim! Originally from New Zealand, I’ve had the privilege of living and building my career in New York, Los Angeles, Auckland and London.

My journey has been filled with pivots and twists — starting as a jazz musician and teacher, moving into band management, and then devolving into restaurant ownership in Brooklyn.

Eventually, I found my way into music supervision and sync licensing, which ultimately led me to help launch a music platform called DISCO.

In 2016, I relocated to Los Angeles to launch DISCO.ac, originally developed as an in-house tool for a music supervision team in Melbourne. The platform has since transformed music catalog management, creative workflows and the international music ecosystem for countless industry professionals.

It’s been an exciting journey to bring onboard over 110 million tracks and collaborate with a diverse array of clients, from major and independent record labels, to film studios and grammy-winning artists.

In the background, I've always kept ticking along with my passion project, Familiar Strangers — a rotating collective of creative industry professionals that fosters connection, knowledge sharing and community.

We organise regular gatherings and create educational workshops to upskill local industry with international expertise.

In conclusion, I’m a proud generalist who loves sharing what I learn, connecting awesome people and helping the creative industry thrive.
