Leea Lamatoa (Ngāpuhi, Te Arawa, Te Aupōuri) is an accomplished voice specialist, music educator and community leader. As Regional Director of To The Front: Tāmaki Makaurau, Leea oversees the organisation of music-education programmes aimed at empowering young women, trans, intersex, takatāpui, queer and gender-diverse youth. The flagship programme of To The Front is a camp where participants learn instruments, form bands, write original songs and perform at a showcase, all guided by musicians and industry professionals. Alongside collaborative learning, participants take part in workshops about DIY merchandise, mindfulness, and performance skills.
Leea works as a voice coach, teaching vocal performance at the University of Auckland, as well as running her own private practice. She works with a range of clientele, from those exploring their voice for the first time through to industry professionals. She specialises in helping songwriters, across a range of contemporary genres, discover and develop their unique voice in a sustainable way.
Leea will be using her Ockham residency to host a range of music workshops for both youth and adults, as well as running one-on-one voice lessons.
