Adrienne Wong: Finding Home
The Ockham Collective is delighted to welcome our first pop-up exhibition to our creative precinct at Modal. Titled Finding Home, it showcases the work of visual artist Adrienne Wong.
"We were looking for ways to welcome the local community into our new space, and Adrienne's exhibition is perfect", says Ockham Collective director Peter Dragicevich. "Not only is she a local herself, having grown up just down the road in Avondale, the exhibition's theme is particularly resonant at this time, when the COVID-19 crisis continues to bring so many expat Kiwis home to roost."
Adrienne recently returned to Aotearoa herself, having lived away for decades, studying visual arts at University of the Arts London, and working as an art director and visual designer in Houston, Johannesburg and Sydney.
Says Wong, "I'm interested in our connection to locations. All the time I was away I maintained a strong identity as a Kiwi and had an undercurrent of longing for my hometown. Coming back and finding myself feeling unfamiliar with some of the changed physical and social landscape, along with some experiences of racism, caused me to explore what it means to be 'home'."
The exhibition runs over two weekends at Modal (845 New North Rd, Mt Albert), from 10am to 2pm on November 14–15 and 21–22. Click here for more info.
