Going to the next level

Going to the next level

On 31 August Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland shifted to COVID-19 response level 2.5 – which means that we're now able to welcome our Ockham Collective residents, their students and our guests back to our three creative precincts. However, we are restricted to gatherings of no more than 10 people until at least Sunday 6 September. So what does this mean for our music lessons and workshops?

Music Lessons

Face-to-face lessons have resumed. We have QR codes, sign-in sheets and hand sanitiser waiting for you at each of our creative precincts. Most of our residents are also offering Zoom lessons – and these will continue to be offered for those who'd prefer them in level 2 and beyond.

If you've ever wanted to learn an instrument – or if you'd like to rekindle a long dormant musical passion – now is your chance. The six world-class musicians in our residency programme are available to teach students in violin, viola, voice, banjo, double bass, electric bass, guitar, ukulele, trumpet, trombone, mandolin, music theory and songwriting.

Check our their bios and book a lesson here.

Group Classes & Workshops

Gatherings in Auckland are limited to 10 people until at least 6 September.

Ockham Collective resident Sonia Wilson will restart her very popular ukulele and singing group classes at Hypatia on Sunday 6 September, with a limit of nine students. There are weekly classes for beginners at 1.30pm and for those at a more intermediate level at 11am, along with combined skills levels at 12.15pm.

If you've got a child aged eight to 14 who already has some violin skills and wants to try a new style and fun group activity, Ockham Collective resident Emily Roughton's next monthly Scottish fiddle workshop is scheduled for Saturday 12 September. By this date it’s possible that gathering limits will be extended, but, if not, the numbers will be limited to fewer than 10 participants.

All of our group classes and workshops can be booked from either the Events Calendar page, or by clicking on our residents' bios.
