Bowie tributes

Bowie tributes

Saturday 10 January marks exactly 10 years since David Bowie took his final journey to the stars. Ever since 2016, DJs Pennie Black and Tina Turntables have been honouring his musical legacy through the popular Let's Dance tribute night at Whammy (St Kevins Arcade, Karangahape Rd). For the second time, our very own resident Bowie tragic Peter Drag will be joining them in the DJ booth.

So get ready to put on your red shoes and dance away your blues over a night of wall-to-wall Bowie and Bowie-adjacent classics, deep cuts and remixes. Even if you haven't darkened the doors of a club for decades, fear not: the crowd is as eclectic as the man himself, from pretty things in satin and tat, to those well into their golden years. Tickets are available on the door but are cheaper in advance through Under the Radar.

Bowie isn't the only great artist approaching their 10th anniversary this year; Prince and George Michael also died in 2016. To celebrate all three of them, Peter Drag is bringing '10 BPM' (Bowie, Prince, Michael) to the Soho Family Vineyards cellar door on Waiheke Island from 3pm to 7pm on Saturday 17 January.

Soho are great friends of the Ockham Collective (if you've been to one of our events, you're likely to be familiar with their wine). Music is a big part of the Soho vibe, so come and join Peter at their rocking Waiheke cellar door (nestled between Stonyridge and Tantalus) for a free afternoon of great wine, delicious food and terrific music.
