Rubber Chook Diplomacy
For 10 years the irrepressible Anita Arlov has been running Inside Out Open Mic For Writers nights, and the Ockham Collective has been pleased to host them for the last two years. We're even more delighted to welcome Anita on to the Collective this year.
The sessions kick off at 6pm on the second Wednesday of each month in their new home: the Ockham Collective space in The Nix building (6 Nixon St, Grey Lynn).
"There is an open-mic list which anyone can add their name to," says Anita. "Most people read or perform a piece of flash (short) fiction or poems. Sometimes people talk about their writing journey – their latest book, for example – or tell a story. Occasionally people play or sing a song. We break every 30 mins for a chance to get a drink, or go outside, or chat. We ask that no-one spends longer than six minutes at the mic. I squawk a rubber chook if people go on too long."
There's always a musical interlude, too, with special guest performers scheduled for each session.
