For the second year in a row, the Ockham Collective is pleased to have a visual artist in its ranks. Jasmine Tuiā (pictured right) recently graduated from Elim with a Master of Fine Arts degree, alongside friend and collaborator Ashleigh Taupaki (pictured left). Together they lead the Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Cross-Crits initiative, an educational and artistic programme that supports and connects Black, Indigenous and People-of-Colour creatives based in Tāmaki Makaurau.

"The idea of 'Cross-Crits' derives from the formal critique that happens within art institutions", explains Jasmine. "It's a process that invites a group of creatives to present work, share suggestions and gain feedback on their art works and practices from their peers."

The first exhibition to evolve from their Cross-Crits group opened last week at ODDLY gallery (216 Dominion Rd) and runs until 16 April. Jasmine and Ashleigh have curated the group show, which features the work of nine local artists.

One of Jasmine's main inspirations for joining the Ockham Collective was to host these Cross-Crit sessions in our OC spaces. We're excited to see what comes from them as the year progresses.
