Introducing... The Nix
Ockham-constructed building, The Nix is the Ockham Collective’s third creative hub, adding to existing spaces in the Tuatahi and Modal buildings in Mt Albert.
With red bricks and a New York vibe, The Nix is tucked behind the car yards at the beginning of Great North Road, on the corner of Nixon and Chapman Streets. The Auckland old timers amongst us have been arguing about what this neighbourhood is actually called. Some say Newton, some Arch Hill. But if you plug the address into Google Maps, or that repository of all knowledge that is the Auckland Council's recycling-day database, it comes up with Grey Lynn. Whatever you call it, it's right on the edge of the city's premier arts and entertainment area.
Says Ockham Collective director Peter Dragicevich, "By setting up on this side of Great North Road we're expanding an arts precinct that already includes the likes of Objectspace, Scott Lawrie Gallery, Studio One Toi Tū, Stark White, Artspace Aotearoa and Silo Theatre, not to mention the many live-music venues of K' Road. We're aiming to add some extra effervescence to an area that's already fizzing."
The Nix is the Collective's largest space by far. We're using it for workshops, intimate performances, salon sessions, music lessons, open-mic nights, pop-up exhibitions and much, much more.
