APO & TV Shows

Team OC has had some wins lately, and we're proud as a pūkeko to share them with you. Martin Roberts has been accepted to a role within the cello section of the APO, and Dan Musgrove and Marina Alofagia McCartney both have shows screening on TVNZ+ this month. Season 2 of critically acclaimed series Creamerie debuts on 14 July.

Poetry & Music

It was a grey and dreary Sunday afternoon in late May, the kind that seems designed for curling up on the couch. Yet a sold-out crowd braved the elements and packed out the Aotea Centre's Limelight Room to hear four of our musicians performing alongside the nominated poets from the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards.

Write on!

Check out the Auckland Writers Festival programme and book your tickets for a week packed with Booker and Pulitzer Prize winners. The glittering night of nights is the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards on Wednesday 17 May, when winners will be announced for the best books published in NZ in the last year.

Meet the 2023 Ockham Collective

It's finally time for us to announce the full line up for the 2023 Ockham Collective. And with a list that includes an Emmy winner, an Arts Laureate and the co-director of only the second-ever feature film to have been helmed by Pasifika women, it's already shaping up to be an exceptional year.

Return of the uke

Sunday singing-and-ukulele sessions have returned to the Ockham Collective, with Collective alumni Sonia Wilson bringing her popular group lessons back to The Nix. A one-hour lesson for beginners and newcomers kicks off at 11am, followed by a session for seasoned beginners and intermediate-level players at 12.30pm.

Best of the west

While we're still drip-feeding who's new to the Ockham Collective ahead of our March announcement, meet James Littlewood. James is the festival director of Going West, the oldest litfest in the land, and we're delighted to have him on the Collective this year. James and Going West are currently producing Season 2 of Different Out Loud.

We're back!

Like most of Auckland, the Ockham Collective has been in hibernation over the Christmas/New Year period but now we're back, with a whole new crew of Collectivites itching to get started. We're going to be announcing the full line up after our launch next month, but a couple of them have already got events booked.

Poetic pairings

August was a great month at the Ockham Collective. We launched our new space at The Nix, hosted two wonderful nights for writers and took part in a new event which was a highlight of National Poetry Day.

Join the OC in 2023

Spring is here and we're already looking towards next year. If you've ever considered being part of the Ockham Collective (OC), now is the time to get in touch. As part of the 2023 Ockham Collective you'll have free use of our spaces where you can teach, host workshops, run group sessions, exhibit art, rehearse, plan and create.

Harping on

The celestial sounds of the harp have been an essential element to the soundtrack of this year's Ockham Collective. If you’re inspired to learn, Harpistina (aka Ina Yoon) is offering a series of one-hour taster sessions around Tāmaki Makaurau this month. Musical knowledge isn't required, and harps are provided.

Ockham Lecture trifecta

This month Objectspace gallery is spoiling our brains with three instalments of their popular Ockham Lecture series. First up, on Thursday 11 August, Korean-born Kiwi costume designer and multi-disciplinary artist Steven Junil Park will be talking on the subject of language through making.

Found in translation

We love books. That's why we wholeheartedly endorse the kaupapa of Kotahi Rau Pukapuka, an organisation committed to translating 100 books into te reo Māori. Last week we were thrilled to host them at our new space in The Nix, as they launched the seventh book in the series.

Introducing... The Nix

We're oh-so excited to announce that the Ockham Collective is taking over the ground floor of the brand new Ockham-constructed building, The Nix. This will be our third creative hub, adding to our existing spaces in the Tuatahi and Modal buildings in Mt Albert.

Songs of a poem

What would happen if were to pair Ockham Collective musicians with the poetry nominees from the Ockham New Zealand Book Awards? All will be revealed on National Poetry Day when our four poet-musician duos take to the stage at SOAP Dance Hall.

All Together Now!

The OC’s Steven Rapana leads the Auckland Central choir for the network of ensembles collectively known as All Together Now. There are no auditions, and the introductory session is free of charge. To attend, you'll need to register online.

A writerly Ruckus at Inside Out

We always love a good Ockham Collective collaboration, and June will see three of our stars align at Anita Arlov’s monthly Inside Out Open Mic for Writers night. This month's musical guest is Ruckus, featuring David Ward and Eamon Edmundson-Wells..

Swede as!

Later this month, OC alumni Hanna Wiskari is offering a very special Masterclass in Scandinavian Traditional Music. This one-day event will take place at the Ockham Collective's Modal precinct in Mt Albert on Saturday 28 May.
